Strong neighborhood commercial districts are the backbone of thriving communities. They provide opportunities for small businesses, create local jobs, activate public spaces, and serve as gathering places that strengthen community identity and quality of life.

That’s why we are excited about the launch of Main Streets Allegheny, a new countywide program led by Sara Innamorato and Allegheny County. This initiative brings more than $4 million in grants, loans, and technical support to help municipalities, business districts, and small businesses across Allegheny County create vibrant and welcoming main streets.

How the Program Works

Main Streets Allegheny combines financial resources, hands-on technical assistance, and district-level planning to support long-term revitalization. The program includes four main components:

  • Implementation & Placemaking Grants ($1M) – Funding for streetscape improvements, public art, signage, and other projects that enhance the character and function of Main Street districts. Applications are open now for municipalities outside Pittsburgh.

  • Events & District Activation Grants ($1M) – Support for community events, pop-ups, and activations that increase foot traffic and engagement. Available countywide, including Pittsburgh neighborhoods. Applications are open now.

  • Technical Assistance ($500K) – Professional support for planning, market analysis, and organizational development to help Main Street districts succeed. Applications open spring 2026.

  • Small Business Grants, Loans, & Support ($1.6M) – Financial assistance and one-on-one guidance to help small businesses grow, expand, and strengthen their presence in local commercial corridors. Applications open spring 2026.

Why This Matters to Us

Initiatives like Main Streets Allegheny closely reflect our mission and vision. We work to provide capital and support to small businesses, affordable housing developers, and neighborhood projects that traditional lenders often overlook. Programs like this ensure that local entrepreneurs have access to the resources they need, neighborhoods thrive, and communities build sustainable local economies.

By supporting strong Main Streets, we help create the conditions for vibrant, inclusive neighborhoods where residents can work, shop, gather, and grow together.
